Metro Tickets

About

About us

metro-tickets.com is an information and purchase site for public-transport tickets in European cities. For each city, the site explains the local fare system: single rides, multi-ride tickets, and day passes, how long each is valid, and where to buy it. Coverage currently includes Amsterdam, with further cities added over time. Each city guide names the official local transport operator, for example GVB in Amsterdam.

Fare systems do not agree with one another from one city to the next, and that is where visitors lose money. Amsterdam alone prices the same ride three ways: by distance if you tap a bank card, by the hour if you buy a paper ticket, and not at all past the first check-in if you hold a day pass. Which of the three wins depends on nothing but the number of journeys you make in a day, and the ticket most visitors reach for first is rarely the one that wins. The same three points come back in every city we add: what counts as one journey, how long a ticket stays valid, and whether you have to check out again at the end. We work them through per city, before you are standing at the machine.

What this site is not

metro-tickets.com is an independent guide. We are not the official website of any local transport operator; the official Amsterdam metro operator, for example, is GVB. We are not a general city travel guide, and we deliberately leave out hotel booking, restaurant guides, attraction tickets without a transit link, and long-distance rail. We do not sell tickets ourselves: purchases are completed with the transport providers linked on each city guide, such as GVB in Amsterdam, and their current prices, availability, and terms apply.
